On My Radar

It was just a matter of time before I brought you some new offerings from two of my faves: Drybar and Bluemercury! Both are absolutely killing it lately, and if you aren't lucky enough to have both close by you can easily peruse these great new offerings online.

I'm not one for Valentine's Day, but I am one for pretty new things and if they happen to come out around V-Day then so be it. Ok so maybe Drybar and their coasters aren't new, but their new heart shaped gift card with it's catchy phrase was too cute not to include. Pick up one for yourself or a few for your gal pals to show them how much you love them!

Bluemercury never disappoints when it comes to new arrivals. Back to your locks for just a moment, this Blow Dry elixir keeps your hair in tip top shape for up to three days and protects from UV damage...yes your hair needs sunscreen too! I listed this Diptyque candle last week, but had to post about it again because it smells heavenly and would look perfect on any surface. Lip trends are a changing, and the folks over at Bobbi Brown came up with some perfectly sheer and shiney nude glosses for the perfect pout. And while you're channeling a natural look, get inspired by this gorgeous, serene eye and cheek palette.

I was contacted to write this post, but as always all opinions are my own.

The Spa Life

Since a full spa day isn't the cards for me for a while, I am dreaming of luxurious spa treatments at home. A gorgeous robe, some great smelling body products, and a killer mask would be more than welcome.

On My Radar

This week's "On My Radar" post is a little different since next week is my 29th birthday (how the eff did that even happen?). Honestly, I haven't put a ton of thought into what I would want, but if someone were to ask me any of the above lovely items would be just dandy.

I love the classic look to this trench style wool coat, I would have it forever. Two words: tortoise headphones. I would live in this comfy, dreamy, perfectly striped Calypso shirt. A classic bangle is high on my wishlist, and a clic clac is so the way to go. Amy Poehler would keep me in stitches, a great gift in itself. Yup I want long stemmed wine glasses so I can pretend to be Olivia Pope, so what. A drool-worthy tote is something you can never go wrong with. Pretty gilded coasters would be absolutely lovely on my coffee table, and would actually make me want to use a coaster. You don't even want to know what I would do for a Nespresso machine. I once had one in a hotel room and no joke had three espressos each morning... it was interesting. I'm so drawn to these pumps. I think the combination of leopard and gold makes them so sexy, and so not me but man do I love them.

Luxe For Less

Chanel, Dior, Valentino, Cartier, Philip Lim, OH MY! Ok not really but there are some really amazing, budget-friendly items out there that will give you that luxe look for a lot less. I'm all about investing in your wardrobe, but while you save and pinch those pennies, don't forget to treat yo' self to the occasional designer inspired piece. What I really like about these picks is that they are all of fairly good quality and avoid the dreaded "cheap" designer inspired looks (you know exactly what I'm talking about). So go ahead and enjoy some quilted leather without breaking the bank, you deserve it.  xoxo

Girl About Town

I'm working on being more put together when it comes to my super casual outfits, and this look is something that for me is very doable. The over-sized sweater is comfortable enough for running around, but is dressed up with a long necklace and black pants. These pants have the look and stretch of a legging, but with the structure of a pant (huge win for me). A classic leather tote is a little more formal than my huge keep all, and the booties tie it all together while being practical.

Fashion Week

Funny story: my boyfriend asked me why I wasn't going to Fashion Week after I received some event invites. I proceeded to burst out laughing. There are several reasons I am not going, the main one being $$$. However, I don't think Fashion Week is really my scene to be quite honest. Other than ready to wear, I don't have an appreciation for haute couture, don't love the idea of getting dressed to the nines for days at a time, and while I love the blogging community I cannot stand the blogger mean girls.

I don't know if I will ever make it a point to attend Fashion Week, but if I were going this is what I would wear. Other than the bag, which yields me incapable of focusing on anything else, it's a pretty doable look for a variety of budgets, it's classic with an edgy twist, and the pieces are so so versatile. Below you can shop the post, and I added a few skirts with different price points along with blouse options. **If leather isn't your thing, or you don't like the price you can try this faux option.**

The New Girl In Town

I've never been a lingerie girl, but I simply adore the look and function of bralettes. One day, I woke up in my mid twenties with a chest and have struggled to figure out functionality and style when it comes to bras. At home, I can typically be found in a sports bra if I am lounging which isn't the worst thing but it may be time for an upgrade. Enter the bralette. The feminine bra is perfect for lounging around in. You don't feel like a total free bird, but you also are not restricted with wires (plus they are so cute and chic so why not let some of it show). This is one item of lingerie I can definitely get behind. Now if only I could be one of those matching bra and underwear girls.... haha never going to happen.

Getting Lippy

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 // 7

There are a few things I am really bad at. Applying lipstick happens to be one of them. I love the look of a bold lip, but to be honest I am terrified of the application process, the bleeding, and the potential for lipstick all over my teeth. I can't tell you how many times I have put it on to go out, only to wipe it all off before I step through the door.

So what's a crazy anxious lipstick-phobic gal like me to do? Find products that mimic the pigment and staying power of a lipstick, without the traditional tube and slanted tip. I've rounded up a few of my favorite alternatives and some ones I'd really like to try out. The new chubby crayon shape many brands are coming out with give me the precision I need in rich, velvety shades I actually want to wear.

I mainly stick to balms during the week, and I have to give a shout out to Fresh's Sugar treatment in "Cherry" because this is one of the most pigmented lightweight balms out there. It seamlessly transitions from day to night. I am pretty intrigued by the concept of liquid lipstick as that is very much in my comfort zone. Also, there are some wonderful alternatives available at your local drugstores so don't forget to check those out as well (I'm looking at you Burt's Bees and Revlon).

Does anyone else relate to my lipstick phobia? Any products you swear by to give you the same look without the anxiety of traditional lipstick?

Happiness Project

So this week's "On My Radar" is a little different. Lately, I have been thinking a lot about what makes me happy. Most things are really simple, not complicated, and things I can often surround myself with. I think a lot of us, myself included, can easily get caught up in the negative. Whether it's negative self talk (I'm the WORST at this), complaining, and even gossiping. All of it is a major buzzkill and just toxic. So I wanted to share with you what makes me happy and by compiling this list, it gave me a chance to really think about just that.

Books and magazines. I love magazines so much, especially ones with unique content and gorgeous photography. It is hard to find books that immediately grab me, but when I do there is nothing better than getting completely wrapped up in it so much so that you cannot put the thing down. An insane cup of coffee. Sure I thought I wanted a Keurig like everyone else, but honestly the coffee isn't great. We bought a french press and take the extra time to brew ridiculous coffee on the weekends and it makes all the difference in the world. Finding pastimes you love. I have to credit my boyfriend to these two activities, but he has given me a love of playing darts and listening to records. I could do both for hours and it brings such joy and a I feel so relaxed while doing both.

This should come as no surprise but I have happily traded crazy nights out at packed bars for lower key nights in with friends. I absolutely love grilling and having cookouts, but it can be as easy as ordering pizza and hanging out that makes the best nights. Memory triggers. What I mean by that are things that bring me back to good times, places and people. I have an Archipelago candle that was made to smell like Charleston. I have had such good memories there, and each time I light it that good feeling comes right on back. I just started keeping a gratitude journal. Each day I write down the things that made me happy, the things I am grateful for, and the high of the day. The act of writing it all down really shifts perspective for me. Also, on crummy days I have something I can look back at to remind me that life really is good.

Last, but certainly not least, I think this is an age thing but boy do I appreciate a really really good cocktail. Not with crappy rail spirits, but with ones I like and can appreciate. The last time we "bar hopped" was only to places that handcraft insane cocktails. We weren't drinking to get drunk, but rather appreciating the delicious drinks. I also keep my favorite vodka at home and indulge in a real bay breeze from time to time (who knew that actual real juice and good vodka could taste so amazing?). Really it always comes back to the little things.

So there you have it, just a few things that make me really happy. I would love to know what makes you happy and how you stay positive.

On My Radar

wrap cardigan // leggings // folding flats // headphones // tee // rollerball // lip balm
eye cream // hand cream // 3-in-1 wipes // iPad mini // filter bottle // tide pen // kind bars // altoids

Traveling for work has made me a great, patient, efficient traveler/packer. I find the formula for a successful long flight is a few things on your person that will keep you as calm and happy as possible. Attire should be kept simple, comfortable and functional. Leggings or very comfortable pants, a basic tee, and a drapey cardigan that can double as a blanket will keep you very happy. If you tend to wear sandals or other shoes not great for airplanes, invest in a pair of foldable flats to keep your feet warm and less restricted (I cannot stand the idea of being in socks on a plane, sorry).

Get yourself some headphones that feel good either on or in your ears, you'll probably be wearing them a ton. On that note, make sure you bring ample entertainment like books, movies, magazines, etc. I like having my iPad with me so I only have to carry one semi heavy item rather than a bunch. While I tend to pack important cosmetics in my carry on bag, I keep hand cream, good lip balm, and depuffing eye cream with me to keep me looking the least haggard possible. Keeping some makeup/cleansing wipes is an easy way clean up without having to go to the bathroom. I tend to buy snacks at the airport or eat there, but stow some bars and mints in your bag when you need something to chew on. Last but certainly not least, carry a Tide pen. I spill all the time, and even if you don't the person next to you may.

LOOK GOOD FEEL GOOD

sweatshirt // dry brush // lip scrub // oil // scalp facial // serum // tea

Today's round up is all about taking care of yourself inside and out. This cozy sweatshirt lets you take your "me" time in comfort and style (perfect for times lounging around wtih a good book!). Have you heard of dry brushing? If not google it immediately! It's so great for circulation, cellulite, and the lymphatic system plus encourages skin cell renewal while exfoliating. Speaking of exfoliating, get that pucker ready with the perfect lip scrub with invigorating peppermint. Mood and senses are closely related, not to mention that smells trigger memories very intensely. Keep your thoughts light with this home fragrance oil with scents of the English coast. The beachy, salty scent is sure to remind you of happy times at the beach.

Dry shampoo has changed my life, but it also has done not so amazing things to my scalp. Even though I use a clarifying shampoo weekly, there is still product buildup. Enter this scalp treatment with it's built in brush to massage in the product and help lift away residue. Let your best face shine through with a retuxturizing and radiance boosting serum. This one not only improves skin's texture and tone, but packs a serious punch of anti-oxidants and red seaweed to help relax fine lines and protect against environmental stressors. The benefits of green tea are numerous, but this one can also chock up great taste to the list. The blueberry flavor is subtle and delicious making green tea a happy part of my routine.

What do you do or  use to keep yourself looking good on the inside and out? I'd love to know!

Let Me Upgrade You

sunnies // curling wand // painting // night cream
lip balm // wine glass // bag // face brush

I have been in a shopping rut and thus have not made many purchases at all in months. I'm at a transitioning point in my life where I want quality over quantity, and I want my purchases to be an investment in myself and my home. So today's picks are all about upgrading some basics that most of us all already have in some capacity.

First, find the right pair of sunglasses that flatter your face in a classic color and style, you'll thank me. A curling wand may seem a tad frivolous, but your hair is one of the first things people will notice (and who hasn't had awful hair days that ruin everything?). If you're like me you want pretty big loose curls and a crappy cheap curling iron just never quite gets it right. You should feel good about your hair. Real art. Just do it already. Find what you like, buy some, frame it, and enjoy it for years to come. Really good night cream. You don't have to break the bank for this one, but make sure you get a thick cream with anti-aging and moisturizing benefits because let's be honest loves, we're no longer spring chickens. While we are on the topic of skincare, go ahead and purchase that Clarisonic you've been thinking about for 2+ years. Exfoliation is crucial to your skin's appearance not mention it makes your cleanser more efficient. Bite the bullet, add to shopping cart, click checkout, et voila!

Lip balm that actually repairs and treats your lips. Did you know most lip products have ingredients that actually dry your lips out and make you use more of said product? I know it's total crap. Use a good balm and take care of your lips they are one of the first indicators of aging. I wouldn't dare tell you what to drink or how much you should spend on wine, but there comes a point when it's time get yourself a few decent wine glasses. Some for reds, a few for whites, and use them accordingly. Boom, instant civility! Last, but certainly not least. Get yourself a "big girl bag" at least for work/travel. Instantly polish your look with a good quality, sturdy bag that you can proudly take from the office to the nicest restaurant.

What types of things do you upgrade in your life? Would love to hear how other people "invest" in themselves!

On My Radar

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6

This week's On My Radar is all about some of my new favorites. 1.) I have been a bareMinerals loyalist for eight years now, and was skeptical to try a liquid foundation but the bareSkin serum foundation is awesome even for oily skinned gals like me. 2.) The bareMinerals face perfecting brush makes all the difference in the world when applying bareSkin. Just two drops gives me light even coverage. 3.) OPI Cajun Shrimp is an oldie, but certainly a goody. This is the perfect summer shade of coral that compliments even the palest skin (yours truly is at full Casper status). 4.) Elements of Style is the first book from one of my favorite bloggers Erin Gates, and is available for pre-order now. Her blog Elements of Style is not only a daily must read, but she has mastered the perfect content mix of design, fashion, life, and everything in between. 5.) I love love love turquoise for summer, and this bib necklace gets it so right. 6.) For the first time in my life my eyes and the vicinity are looking tired and dark. Origins GinZing refreshing eye cream gives under-eyes a much needed boost of caffeine (I apply all over eye lids too for a boost).

On My Radar

basket // wine flask // stemless sippy cup

It's that time of year where concerts and dining al fresco are the norm. I love all the outdoor activities we have in DC, and what better way than to enjoy them with a fabulous picnic? A classic basket with accessories will hold all your snacks and treats. Some locations don't allow glass so bring your favorite vino in a wine flask to skirt the rules. If you want to be extra fancy, try these stemless glass sippy cups for a playful container for your beverage. What are your picnic basket go tos? Cheers!

On My Radar

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 // 7 // 8

Sorry for my brief blog hiatus. I was traveling for work and unfortunately my hotel wifi was not working. I really do need to get an editorial schedule together so I can work on batches of posts at a time, but sometimes I blog when the ideas hit. So for now sorry and thanks for putting up with me!

Summer means pools, beaches, and for a super pale girl like me coverups. Just because I need sun protection, doesn't mean I can't do it in style. From classic to boho to just a pair of shorts, this roundup will keep you chic and protected.

On My Radar

Summer ultimately means less. Less makeup, less accessories, and frankly less clothing. I'm on the lookout for the perfect white tee, comfy shorts, day to night wedges, and a "wow" maxi. What are your summer essentials?
